I wanted to know if its worth getting landscaping fabric for my garden...?

This is the first time I%26#039;m gardening and I%26#039;m learning as I go. I just planted shrubs (Barberry and Azalea mostly so far) and I would really like to get it done properly once so I dont have to repair any mistakes after. I hate weeds by the way!

I wanted to know if its worth getting landscaping fabric for my garden...?
It depends what you%26#039;re trying to accomplish. I find landscaping fabric is a problem in the wetter climates, (like me in Michigan). I use natural mulch like wood chips. Fabric is kind of a pain to deal with later on when you have to get back in the flower bed and fertilize and stuff. And if it%26#039;s too wet, you%26#039;ll get pill bugs and those other icky bugs whose name escapes me at the moment. Plus, to me it seems kinda %26quot;fake%26quot;.

If you%26#039;re a newbie, keep it simple, stick with hardy stuff like Hostas and a light cover of mulch. That%26#039;s real easy to maintain. Also, buy perennials and plant them in their fav locations based on their sun needs. They come back each year so you don%26#039;t have to go out and buy new stuff.
Reply:cardboard works too. Report It

Reply:Landscaping fabric, in my hands, has been very disappointing...grass comes up through it, seems to be a waste of money. Mulch and weed when necessary. Good luck
Reply:I have to agree with the other responses. I have found landscaping fabric to be a pain in the b---. Weeds come up anyway. Newspaper works much better to keep weeds down and they break down and work to enrich the soil. So that you don%26#039;t see it I put mulch on top of the paper.

Good Luck!
